Let’s talk about exterior stains, and staining your deck. Stains start from the very infancy of a new deck, right on to a deck that 25 or 30 years old.

We love to stain a brand new deck with semi-transparent stains. We prefer semi-transparent oils that are VOC compliant. We’ve got a penetrating finish, we’re got a finish that won’t peel.

Maybe five or six years down the road, the deck’s weathered, we do live in the Northeast, maybe we’ll change that semi-transparent stain to a semi-solid stain. We’ve got a semi-solid stain that has some penetration to it. It’s a little more forgiving, it won’t peel, because it isn’t solid.
